a few Comments
Dancing with Swords
Harvey is absolutely fabulous! I brought him in to work on physical combat and sword play with my students, at Kwantlen Park Secondary, for our production of Romeo and Juliet. Harvey teaches with humour, safety and an eye for detail. His choreography is theatrical and memorable and the kids love him. I would have him back in a heartbeat!
Laurie Brazzill, Kwantlen Park
Audition Techniques
The students really enjoyed their workshops, they said it prepared them for their auditions and because of some of the things you talked about they will spend more time researching their characters earlier on in the process. All and all, a success. So thank you.
Jennifer Twigg, North Surrey Secondary
Scriptwriting
Thank you for coming in. I had the students reflect on their experience yesterday and they had nothing but positive comments. They loved you! Ahmed (my exceptional acting 12 student) went home and finished his full length play because he said you inspired him.
Giovanna Constantini, Frank Hurt Secondary
Promoting the play
" Having you in to talk to the students about promoting the play was like an injection of adrenaline. The students were all fired up. The best part was that they realized their ownership and commitment to the production would bring it's success!"
Felicity Rudolph, Burnaby Mountain Secondary

Dancing with swords
A stage fencing choreography workshop
This workshop emphasizes safety and includes elements of stage fighting and dance. It is important to realize that your students must choreograph* their work. Students are often "turned on" to Shakespeare through this work . A follow up session on Shakespearean acting can follow the work with the epees.
* I have in the past year worked with the casts of a number of high school productions both in choreographing the swordplay and in helping the actors to realize their on stage characters.
Two or three hours
Scriptwriting
This workshop will help your students to overcome the "blank page syndrome," allow them to understand both format and style and get them started on the scripts they truly want to write. Playwright combines the elements of craft and artistry. It is this that I hope to impart to your pupils. Not everyone can write but everyone can create dialogue for the people they know.
One or two hours
Characterization
This workshop focuses on helping the young actors to understand how important it is to empathize and understand how their stage-character can evoke the correct response from the audience which comes to the theatre not to see or hear the actors but to connect to their feelings. What happened before the scene began? Who are they beyond the boundaries of the script. These are the kinds of questions that must be answered before they can remove the mask of self and discover the truth of their role. Recommended for senior students.
Two hours
Audition Techniques
The workshop works by itself or can be used in conjunction with the characterization workshop. The session includes methodology and approach to the formal audition. How do you choose a piece that is right for you? What do the auditors look for? How to prepare your monologue? Why are the first fifteen seconds so crucial? The workshop differentiates between presentation for television, acting school, agent or film .
One or two hours
Mime
A step by step approach to illusion mime. Students will learn the wall, the cage, the ladder and how to manipulate an object. Some elements of clowning are used to enhance the work. Junior students will particularly enjoy this session.
One hour
Improvisation and Comic Acting Technique.
When asked by a fellow director how to shoot the scene of the fat person slipping on the banana peel Chaplin is said to have responded, " First you show the actor approaching the banana peel, then you show him stepping over it... and into a manhole on the other side." The essence of comic acting combines timing and surprise. Through improvisation, use of status, and scripts from Monte Python and Abbott and Costello, this workshop entices students to find the comic moment.
